Background

The MBA World Trophy has been designed to address the issue that business plans have become less relevant in today’s start up environment. Using the latest entrepreneurship best practice, customer development and lean start up techniques, startups can accelerate business development like never before.

About

The MBA World Trophy – From September 4th – September 6th 2014 in Dublin, Ireland – brings together teams of highly motivated entrepreneurs from some of the world’s finest colleges to compete against each other with their startup businesses. They will have their business model challenged by a leading panel of successful entrepreneurs, VCs and thought leaders. This is a business start up competition that will accelerate an early stage company using the lean start up principles and change how college students think about building and scaling their business.

Pre-Engagement
We are targeting early stage college startups. We are encouraging entrepreneurs to form teams
and discover how they can create a sustainable company around their business idea. Teams will
engage with us before they travel to Dublin using lean startup methodologies and validated
learning to develop a workable business model. Teams should be multi-disciplinary
including at least one currently enrolled MBA Student to reflect the reality of the startup teams in the real business world.

The MBA World Trophy
The event is arranged around four ‘pillars’. These core features have been identified by talking
with participating teams about the areas they need help with. These pillars are intensive
workshops and seminars in Finance, Innovation, Growth and Leadership and will help the startups move to the next stage of their business development.

On day one teams will present their story so far and how they have used the latest entrepreneurship techniques to develop their current business model. Each team has 4 minutes to pitch and there is a prize fund of $2500 for the best lean startup. The 2013 lean pitch  rules are available here.  Over the following two days, teams will participate in workshops and seminars and work closely with mentors.
